A few things about Lee Haney

Full name: Lee Marvin Haney.

Birthdate: November 11, 1959.

Birthplace: Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Height: 5'11"

Contest weight: 248 pounds at 1991 Mr. Olympia-last contest.

First-ever bodybuilding contest: 1976 Mr. Junior South Carolina. "Didn't place - I was 160 pounds."

Early bodybuilding influences: Robby Robinson and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Career choice other than bodybuilding: NFL running back. "I wanted to be Jim Brown. That's why I started working out."

Highlight of bodybuilding career: Meeting Joe Weider for the first time in 1983. "I was talking to a legend."

Memories of record-setting eight Olympia win, 1991: "As far as my training and prep went, it was the easiest ever. I guess I'd finally figured out how to peak. At the end, standing onstage with my wife and two children was just incredible."

Thoughts on never competing again after that: "I didn't have room for a ninth Sandow over my fireplace."

RIVALS

Most formidable competitor:

"Dorian [Yates, who finished second to Haney in their only contest meeting the 1991 Mr. Olympia] was different than anyone else I had competed against. He was still a baby at that point. By the time he retired, he was a monster."

Describe Rich Gaspari: "Intense."

Describe Lee Labrada: "Classy."

Describe Dorian Yates: "Hercules."

THE INNER MAN

Greatest fear in life: "To not fulfill my potential."

Persons you most admire: "My mom and dad, who died in 1992. They gave me the foundation for everything."

Greatest regret: "I don't have any.

Quality you most admire in people: "The ability to try to make a dream come true."

Quality you most dislike in people: "Being judgmental."

Legacy you hope to leave: "A positive impact on the lives of people I came into contact with."
