PostSubject: ***Posting Images/Videos In the Forum***   Mon Oct 08, 2007 7:44 pm

Hello everyone, the boss has informed me that a few people need help with posting photos on the forum. I have come up with a quick guide to ease you through this seemingly difficult, but incredibly simple process.

1. Upload the File to a Server
Your photo now needs to be stored in cyberspace on a server, and it will always have an address (or "URL" = "universal resource locator") that tells any computer exactly how to find it. Most ISP's provide some server space for this, and you would need to check with your Internet Provider to find out how to use it. Another option is to use a free photo hosting service. Photobucket seems to work well for this. You need to register and sign up for an account here, then follow the instructions to upload your pictures, where they will be stored on their server, each with its own address, and can be added and deleted as you choose. It always helps to carefully write down the exact URL for each image, although one of the nice options with Photobucket is that they have some posting options which not only saves the URL, but adds the "tags" that are needed to post them on the Forum (see #2).

2. Link the Photo on the Server to Your Post on the Forum
The easiest way to do this to find your photo at the bottom of the page on Photobucket, then go to the bottom box labelled "Img". Carefully left click to select the entire contents of that box (all of the symbols and letters within that box have to be blue at this point). Now right click and while the
mouse is still over the blue area, left click on"Copy". Go back to your forum post and put the pointer within the box where you type your response and right click again and then left click "Paste". Your the code for your picture should appear, and now you could go back and add another picture if needed.

Click "Preview" at the bottom of the screen to check that it uploaded correctly. This works with all file hosting websites and any forum that allows html code, such as this one.
Either way, you have just created the "html" code that gets you to the photo on the internet. This "code" could have been just typed into the post box as:

[img]http://i23.servimg.com/u/f23/11/58/85/65/comp1210.jpg[img]

Basically, the letters in red should be exactly as shown, but the letters in between will be your own URL for the picture:.
[img]http://i23.servimg.com/u/f23/11/58/85/65/comp1210.jpg[img]

Please note that I removed a / from the last [img] of the link
code above in order to have it show.
All img codes start [img] and end in [/img]
That is a big reason many people mess up when posting photos online.

If I put it in correctly, it would look like this:

This works with all file hosting websites and any forum that allows BBCode or html code, such as this one.

Other file host sites are:
www.imageshack.us/
www.photobucket.com
www.fllickr.com/
www.photolava.com/
www.tinypic.com/
www.smugmug.com/
www.picturetrail.com/
www.servimg.com/

Remember that if you delete your photo from your host site, it will no longer show up in your forum post, so please leave it on the server for as long

as you can. In most cases this can be "forever".

Quick summary:
1: Upload your photos
2: Copy and paste the image code to your post, i.e.[IMG]http://www.somewebsite.com/Forumpost2.jpg[/MG] (most of the websites have it specifically saying "img" in the box you need to copy.
3. Preview your post to ensure you copied the right code.
4. If you have any questions please let me know.
5. Lift weights and be merry!!

Also, you can quote this post and see the code for the above pic in all its glory!!!!

Thank you,
7he9od

Also, when you create a new post in the top right, just below where you type the title of your thread/post, you can click "Insert an image"
This will open a new window that will send you directly to www.servimg.com
How great is that??
Real great!

This is great info for people who don't already have an account at one of these sites or for people who don't use OPERA Web Browser.

To post youtube videos in your topic just type the following:
[youtube][/youtube]

Inbetween the two ][ put the last part of the youtube video link (in bold below):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpaNDyj0jMI

One more thing. If your video starts with something other than a number or letter, it may not work some time. I don't know why. I just tryed it with like 3 random videos.

I just found out you could do the same with dailymotion videos .
You have to put the same link as below between the tags [dailymotion] and [/dailymotion] .
