| Dan Puckett had a big heart and was a dedicated athlete, said some of his close friends.
Lori McCorkle, Puckett's fiancée, said she met Puckett her senior year in high school. "I was new, and he kind of took me under his wing," McCorkle said. "We were best friends instantly." McCorkle said the two planned to be married after he graduated. Puckett began pursuing bodybuilding his freshman year of college. "He's an amazing athlete," McCorkle said. "He's the most dedicated and determined man anyone will ever meet." Puckett worked out five or six days a week, while keeping a diet. He had won every bodybuilding competition he ever entered. Puckett was a Christian, McCorkle said, and they both attended Highland Park Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals. McCorkle said Puckett came to visit and go to church with her every weekend.
Michael Skaggs, a senior majoring in operations management, said he and Puckett had been friends since they were 5 years old. After spending so much time together at school, they became close friends, Skaggs said. "He was the closest thing I've had to a brother," he said. He said Puckett had a big heart and was always there for others when they needed someone. "He would always go out of his way to help you," Skaggs said. "Regardless of what it was he could help you out with, he was there. That's the care he had for everyone." |
